The Iridium system is consists of three parts: satellite network, ground network, and mobile terminal. It can provide voice and data communications anywhere in the world (including north and south poles). The system has 66 low-orbit satellites distributed in 6 polar planes, and 11 working satellites in the polar plane. The satellite revolves around the earth at an altitude of 780 kilometers at a speed of 27,000 kilometers per hour, orbiting the earth in about 100 minutes. Each satellite is cross-linked with four other satellites, two on the same orbital plane and two on adjacent orbital planes.
